The smartphone market experiences a brief flurry of activity every time a flagship phone arrives, but the churn of budget and mid-range handsets is much more constant. The latest is Motorola’s Motoluxe, available for nothing on a £15 a month, two-year contract.

That’s a tempting price if you’re looking for an entry-level Android phone, but don’t expect miracles from the modest hardware. The Motoluxe scored 1,025 in the Quadrant benchmark and took just over seven seconds to finish the SunSpider test; that’s faster than other budget handsets such as the HTC Wildfire S, but it’s several times slower than today’s premium handsets.

That middling performance comes courtesy of the Qualcomm MSM7227 processor. It’s the same chip that powers the HTC Wildfire S, and it was also used in a host of older handsets including the HTC Legend and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini.
Article source: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/smartphones/374713/motorola-motoluxe

Of course, if you’ve been following HTC’s antics this year, you might remember the HTC One S was originally referred to as the HTC Ville. Somewhat confusingly, the HTC One V has nothing to do with Ville. My head hurts.

According to sources of BriefMobile, the HTC Ville C is best described as a cheaper, ultra-slim version of the HTC One S.
Running the latest version of Google’s operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, it includes a 3.5-inch HVGA screen and 5-megapixel camera. The design is similar to the new HTC One range with high-quality features, including a micro-drilled ear piece and metal camera bezel.

The HTC Wildfire and the HTC Wildfire S were hugely successful phones for HTC, combining high-end features with an entry-level price point designed to appeal to the first time smartphone user. The HTC Desire C looks to appeal in a similar way.

HTC has confirmed all the major networks will be selling the phone, so we’ll update this page with pricing and UK launch information when we get it.

More details have emerged on the HTC Desire C, the forthcoming budget Ice Cream Sandwich phone. It’s been tested and benchmarked to see if a low-specced affordable phone can cope with the demands of up-to-date Android.

Inside the Desire C is a 600MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Adreno 200 graphics chip. It’s possibly the lowest-specced phone to run Ice Cream Sandwich, even leading us to wonder whether it could properly handle ICS at all.

One reason we’re interested in the new Desire’s performance is its similarity, on paper, to last year’s HTC Wildfire S. They both pack a 600MHz processor and 512MB of RAM, so it’s an opportunity to see whether newer really is better, all else being roughly equal.

GSM Dome evaluated the Desire C using the AnTuTu and Quadrant benchmark apps, which test graphics performance, processor speeds and more.
Hi all,

I received a pair of tracker tags with my recently dealer purchased 2007 V8V. When I asked for tracker to be enabled, the dealer told me that these existing tags were useless as the id number label was worn away. The dealer originally told me that the tags cost him about £60 each and most people prefer to use their phones. He said that the tag batteries were poor and likely to last less than a year.

My phone was linked to the tracker and a replacement tag in the post was promised. It turns out that my phone (HTC Wildfire) isn’t hugely keen on the tracker – the phone has
Article source: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1149669

Android publisher Animoca has responded to claims Google’s OS is saddled by fragmentation by talking up the benefits of the range of handsets that support the platform.

Speaking in reply to the furore the firm itself created – TechCrunch having leapt upon an image Animoca posted of the number of devices the firm QA tests on – the publisher claimed it ‘embraces the diversity of the Android ecosystem’.

In Animoca’s view, the pain developers endure supporting multiple devices is balanced out by Android’s status as an open, and largely welcoming ecosystem.

Embrace it

“Android fragmentation is a bit like multicultural diversity: it may cause friction from time to time but a community that embraces it ought to be richer and more vibrant,” said Animoca on its blog.

“No other mainstream mobile operating system provides the extensive functionality and potential of Android at such a variety of price points.

“That’s why we embrace
Article source: http://www.pocketgamer.biz/r/PG.Biz/Animoca+news/news.asp?c=41032
